Jeep has long remained the pinnacle of SUVs. The company created the vehicle type with the original Jeep Wrangler and has since put out a number of variations on the classic design, including the Jeep Renegade. The Renegade is a subcompact SUV that is one of the newer additions to the Jeep lineup, with the 2015 model year being its first. Initially showcased at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, there are several trim packages and customized features available on the Renegade. So if you're looking for a smaller SUV that is built in the image of the Wrangler, the 2020 Jeep Renegade may just be exactly what you're looking for.
There are a number of trim options available for the 2020 Jeep Renegade. Currently, for the 2020 Jeep Renegade, there is a Sport, Upland, Latitude, Altitude, Limited, High Altitude, and Trailhawk. Most of these versions are available in both front-wheel drive and 4x4 (except the Trailhawk, which is only available in 4x4). However, while the trim packages have been released and most of what is to be found both under the hood and inside the cabin are known, Chrysler has not firmly released what each expected MSRP.
The current expected base, which is the Sport front-wheel-drive Jeep Renegade, will have a believed MSRP of $22,275. This price and the price of all other trims on the Renegade are subject to change, so while some third-party outlets are reporting expected MSRPs, it is best to wait on the exact cost of the SUV. Due to this, you'll want to stick with us right here as we will provide updated cost information when Chrysler and Jeep make it available.
Before discussing engines, it is important to note that Jeep has not yet officially released information about the 2020 Jeep Renegade; all of this information is based on 2019 model specifications. The base engine on the 2020 Jeep Renegade is a 2.4L engine that produces 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. With a 12.7-gallon fuel tank, the compact SUV does net an estimated 22 miles per gallon in the city and up to 30 miles per gallon on the highway (for the front-wheel-drive option. The 4x4 sees a slight decline to 21 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway).
All trim package designs use the same engine up until the Limited. The 2020 Jeep Renegade Limited uses an inter-cooled turbo premium unleaded 1.3L Turbo engine that produces 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. While the horsepower does dip a little, the torque increases by 20. Additionally, the fuel economy for the turbo engine increases to 24 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway (for the front-wheel-drive). The High Altitude and Trailhawk trim packages all use the same engine type as well.
The 2020 Jeep Renegade might be smaller than other models put out by the company, but it does have several safety features available. On the Sport package, the vehicle comes with a driver, front head, front side, passenger, and rear head airbags. Other safety features that come with the SUV include brake assist, daytime running lights, electronic stability control, traction control, and child safety locks. On the base package, you can spring for blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and cross-traffic alert as added features.
These are the standard safety features on all of the trim packages available. However, some of the more off-road packages (such as the High Altitude) do not come with integrated turn signal mirrors. However, it, as well as blind-spot monitor, lane departure warning, and cross-traffic alert are all optional features.
The entertainment features on the 2020 Jeep Renegade will vary from one trim package to the next. There are several packages here that are based more around entertainment and the interior, while others are designed more with the exterior in mind.
The Sport trim package comes standard with an AM/FM stereo, MP3 player, AUX input for connecting external audio devices that use a 3.5mm headphone jack and wireless cell phone hookup. Some optional add-ons for the Sport trim include smart device integration and satellite radio. Dual-zone A/C and climate control are also optional features on the Sport (A/C does come standard).
The two top trim packages are the Limited 4x4 and the High Altitude 4x4. On the Limited, the SUV comes standard with AM/FM stereo, AUX input, MP3 player, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual zone A/C, and wireless cell phone hookup. Optional features include a premium sound system, HD radio, and a navigation system. On the High Altitude, the SUV comes standard with the same features, plus a navigation system. Beats premium sound system and HD radio are both options.
Despite being the base model, the 2020 Jeep Renegade Sport package does come with many standard convenience features. This includes a back-up camera, cruise control, auto-off headlights, keyless start, vehicle anti-theft system, keyless entry, and heated mirrors. The seats are cloth and feature a pass-through rear seat (the second row is a bench seat). Optional features for the Sport package include an alarm, interior cargo shade, automatic parking, rain-sensing wipers (which is always a perk when the rain comes out of nowhere), adaptive cruise control, and remote engine start. On those rare cold days during the winter and it's cold outside, there's nothing like hopping into a vehicle that is already running with the heat on full blast.
The Limited comes with all of the same standard convenience features as the Sport. However, in addition to the Sport features, it also comes standard with fog lamps, a leather-wrapped steering wheel (which is also heated), remote engine start, electrochromic rearview mirror, and rain-sensing wipers (to name a few of the added features). The seats in the Limited package are heated leather seats. The driver offers adjustable lumbar support, and the second row remains a bench seat. The High Altitude also features the same convenience and seating features as the Limited trim package.
Keep in mind the optional convenience features, and the optional entertainment features will alter the price of the 2020 Jeep Renegade. Exactly how the price points will change will become available in the near future as Jeep begins to roll out the new Renegade to dealerships around the country.
The 2020 Jeep Renegade Sport comes standard with a rear spoiler, steel wheels, and all-season tires. A tire pressure monitoring system is in place for all trim packages. Rear cargo space - when all seats are up - is 18.5 cubic feet while this increases to 50.8 cubic feet when the back row is folded down. Optional features on the sport package include a sun or dual sunroofs, a full-size spare tire (it comes with a donut tire), and aluminum wheels.
The Trailhawk trim package comes with the same rear spoiler, although the wheels are upgraded to aluminum wheels, and it comes with a full-size spare tire. It also has all-terrain front and rear tires, so if you like the more rugged, off-road looking tires, this is an excellent upgrade package to consider. The sunroof features are optional, and a trailer hitch receiver is optional, as well.
On the Limited trim package, it comes with a rear spoiler, aluminum wheels, and performance front and rear tires. It does come with a donut spare tire, so the full-size spare is optional, as are the sunroof additions and the trailer hitch. The High Altitude comes with all the same standard and optional features as the Limited package, and the cargo volume is the same in all the trim packages as well.
A trailer hitch is optional on most of the trim packages, and you can always have it installed post-purchase, although it generally is easier and more streamlined to have the trailer hitch installed before driving off the lot. However, as the engine specs do not change all that much, the 2020 Jeep Renegade has a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds. The turbocharged engine does offer twenty more lb-ft of torque, which helps aid in the towing process, but in general, you'll want to keep the total towing, including the weight of a trailer, under 2,000 pounds for optimal performance.
