Recent years have reinvigorated our collective love of classic American muscle, and no automaker has defined this automotive renaissance more masterfully than Dodge. The enduring appeal of Mopar performance, combined with throwback styling has catapulted such offerings as the Charger and Challenger to the front of the proverbial class; with high powered offshoots like the SRT Hellcat redefining the visceral experience of Dodge muscle. Simply put, when it comes to classic performance, Dodge leads the charge.
This model year, it seems that FCA brand vehicles have come out on top, at least in the state of Texas. With Ford and GM all-but absent from the top picks made by the Texas Auto Writers Association, there were a number of showings from the iconic Jeep brand. The Wrangler Rubicon was chosen as the Best Off-Road Utility Vehicle, while the Sahara wrangled Best Midsize SUV honors. With all that in mind, it’s hardly a surprise that the iconic Jeep brand fares so well in the Lone Star State.
The ever-increasing popularity of SUV offerings has compelled a number of automakers to reassess their entire lineups. Brands like Dodge and Jeep, however, must have had a crystal ball because they have been focused on this versatile segment for decades. And don’t mistake versatility for a lack of inspiration. Consider the accessibility of the Dodge Durango, as well as the fierce performance offered by its SRT variant.
And while we talked about the iconic nature of the Jeep Wrangler above (noting its most recent Texas-based praise) take a moment to consider the rest of Jeep’s appealing lineup. From such recognizable mainstays as the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee to newer faces like the Compass and Renegade, there truly is a Jeep out there for everyone.
But shame on us if we failed to acknowledge such enduring favorites as the Dodge Grand Caravan, Journey, and Chrysler Pacifica. With nearly four-decades under its belt, the Caravan has proven itself to be a favorite of fleets and families, across multiple generations. And both the Journey and Pacifica provide it with good company, since both offerings deliver unparalleled value and the kind of practicality that’s welcome in both families and businesses alike.
Not only was the 2019 RAM 1500 selected by the Texas Auto Writers Association as the Truck of Texas, but its inarguable appeal has propelled the RAM above the Silverado in terms of sales standings this year. In addition, the RAM Rebel has earned accolades as Off-Road Pickup of the Year (over the Ford Raptor) while the Limited Trim took top honors in the Full-Size Pickup category, and the Laramie Longhorn was named Luxury Pickup Truck. Even the RAM 2500 Power Wagon came out on top in terms of Heavy-Duty Pickup. All in all, a pretty strong endorsement for Dallas and Fort Worth-area truck buyers to consider. And we didn’t even mention the all-new Jeep Gladiator.
